Four seasons, four trips

June–August

Lofoten in summer

Midnight sun, green mountains, beach evenings — the season when everything is open.

September–November

Lofoten in autumn

Golden hillsides, the first northern lights, and the islands at their calmest.

December–March

Lofoten in winter

Blue twilight, white peaks, aurora nights — and long, warm evenings by the fire.

April–May

Lofoten in spring

White peaks over a blue sea, returning light, and the islands almost to yourself.

Casa Lofoten

Whichever light you choose, the house is set up for it

  • September–April: the northern lights from the doorstep — dark side-fjord sky, benches on the hillside, fires inside.
  • May–July: the midnight sun from the chairs on the dock.
  • All year: the sauna by your own beach, and the whole west within a short drive.

The season guides above show each trip in detail — the house is the same good answer in all of them.

The timing questions, answered

When is the best time to visit Lofoten?

There is no bad season — only different light. Midnight sun and full hiking June–August, gold and the first aurora in autumn, snow and peak northern lights in late winter, quiet white-and-blue weeks in spring. Choose the light you want.

When is the best time for the northern lights?

Mid-September to early April — February and March pair long nights with the steadiest weather, and September is the mildest aurora month. Our northern lights guide covers how and where to watch.

When is the best time for hiking?

April to October with normal mountain gear. Only Reinebringen is closed in winter — every other hike is open all year with the right gear, weather permitting.
