Lofoten in spring
Spring arrives here as light before it arrives as warmth — white peaks over a sunlit, ink-blue sea, and the islands almost to yourself.
What spring gives you
Through March and April the days stretch fast — nearly twelve daylight hours by mid-March — while the peaks stay white and the aurora still shows on clear nights into early April. The drying racks stand full from the skrei season, the villages go about the end of the fishery, and the famous viewpoints are quiet in a way summer visitors never see.
The 17th of May — Norway’s Constitution Day — fills every village with flags and parades. Still calm, and often surprisingly lovely.

Can we see the northern lights in spring?
Into the first days of April, yes — after that the nights turn bright, and the midnight-sun season takes over from late May.
Can we hike in spring?
Yes — Volandstind, Ryten and Kvalvika are walkable all year round with the right equipment, and the coastal walks — like Nesland to Nusfjord, 10 minutes from the house — are lovely all season. The highest routes hold snow into May.
