The house went up in the early 1950s, built by a family who lived the old Lofoten arithmetic: a few rows of potatoes and other vegetables, sheep for the household, and the sea for the rest. The sheep lived on the lower floor — this was normal then — until the barn was built for them. The boathouse came in the seventies, for the boat and the gear.
We spent two years looking for this place, and when we found it we rebuilt all three buildings into the home we had dreamed of. The cellar was dug out by hand to gain full ceiling height; the wiring, plumbing, windows, chimneys, fireplaces, bathrooms, kitchens and furniture are new — and everything original that could carry its weight, we kept, because a house like this should feel like what it is: solid, Nordic, and lived in. Whatever the season, you sleep with the window open and mountain air in the room.

Equipped for a week, not for a night
This explains how the house is equipped: a kitchen stocked like a home you cook in, not a cabin you camp in. A drying cabinet in the entrance hall that takes boots and shell jackets after a wet day, and beats any tumble dryer. A large freezer for the day the fishing goes well. A desk with screen and keyboard for the one who has to log on. Firewood, board games, books, and two of everything that matters, one per floor.

How the house is laid out
Two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and a fireplace on each floor: the house divides naturally in the middle. Two families — or a group of friends — travel well here: apart when the doors close, together when you want to be, over good dinners at the dining table with room for eight and the fjord outside the window.

The house, in short
How many people does the house sleep?
Eight, in five beds across four bedrooms: a double, two queens and a bunk bed. Two bedrooms and a bathroom on each floor.
Is the kitchen properly equipped?
There are two fully equipped kitchens, one on each floor, with a dishwasher, a coffee machine and enough pans for two cooks. There is deliberately no microwave — when you are in Lofoten, you have time.
How do we check in?
Self check-in with a code lock, from 16:00 on arrival day. Check-out is 11:00.
Can we work from the house?
There is a desk in the hall with an external monitor, keyboard, mouse and webcam — plug in your laptop and you are set. Wi-Fi reaches the grounds.
How is the house heated in winter?
Underfloor heating in the hall and the whole lower floor, panel heaters in every room, new windows, and a fireplace on each floor. Firewood is provided.
Can two families really stay without getting in each other's way?
That is how the house divides: two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and a fireplace on each floor, with two entrances. Apart when the doors close, together at the dining table.
What do we do with wet boots and jackets?
The drying cabinet in the entrance hall takes boots and shell jackets after a wet day — gentler than a tumble dryer on Gore-Tex — and there are boot dryers at both entrances.
How would you like the beds made up?
Send us a message about how you want the beds made up, and we will set it up exactly as you like. Linen and towels are included.
Can we charge an electric car?
Yes — a Type 2 charger by the door, free for guests, with free parking on the property.
We fish — is there freezer space?
A chest freezer in the laundry in addition to the kitchen freezer. If you are flying home with your catch, check the current export limits before you pack.
Are the stairs steep?
They are original to the 1950s house — part of its character, and worth knowing about if someone in your group is unsteady on stairs.
