The stop worth planning around

Anita’s Sjømat is the reason to time your Reine day around lunch: a seafood bar and delicacy shop run by the family that has worked this island for generations, with the famous fish burger, a fish soup people argue about, and a counter of smoked and dried fish to take home. The yellow rorbu cabins around it date from the 1870s, and in spring the racks by the road fill with drying cod. Under the peak of Olstind, it is as concentrated a dose of Lofoten as a single small island can carry.

With children

The little Museum of Dolls and Toys on the island is a fine rainy-half-hour with small ones — and the fish burger works on every age.

Getting there

On the E10, about half an hour from the house — two minutes past Hamnøy, five before Reine. Park at the marked spaces and walk.
