Ramberg

The nearest village, five minutes from the house — and the reason the location is workable rather than merely scenic. Grocery shop, café, restaurant, petrol, tourist information and a doctor: you are not driving half an hour for milk.

What the village actually has

Ramberg is the administrative centre of Flakstad municipality, which is why a village this small carries a full practical kit. The Bunnpris grocery shop is open even on Sundays and doubles as the local medicine outlet (“medisinutsalg” — the Norwegian arrangement where a shop dispenses common pharmacy goods). The white beach below the village, Rambergstranda, faces west, into the open sea — one of the best midnight sun beaches in Lofoten.
