Midnight sun in Lofoten
From late May to mid-July the sun never sets — and the light nights run from May into September. Here is how to experience it well.

The dates — and the hour
The sun stays above the horizon from roughly 26–28 May to 14–17 July — and the light season is far longer: from May well into September the nights never get properly dark.
The detail almost everyone misses: because Norway is on summer time, the sun reaches its lowest, warmest point around one in the morning, not midnight. Nothing about it is sudden — the light turns golden through the late evening, stays that way for hours, and lifts again toward morning. Stay up properly once, and you will understand why dinner drifts late here all summer.
Where to watch it
Through the evening the sun swings along the horizon toward due north — so you want an open horizon to the west and north. The west of Lofoten faces the open Atlantic: natural midnight sun country.
Rambergstranda, the white beach below the village, faces west — park, walk onto the sand, and watch the whole slow arc. The summits — Volandstind above all — turn the light weeks into evening-hike country: start after dinner, stand on top through the low point. And the dock: most of our guests simply carry the evening coffee down to the water.

Casa Lofoten
The midnight sun from your own shore
- Chairs on the dock face the midnight sun at 24:00 — the whole arc, kettle within reach.
- Rambergstranda five minutes away — one of the best midnight-sun beaches in Lofoten.
- Volandstind from the door for the evening-summit version.
- Sleep comes easy after: proper blackout solutions in the bedrooms.
The dock, the beach five minutes away and the summit evenings — all from the same base.
The midnight sun, answered
Can I see it in August?
The sun sets again from mid-July — but August evenings keep long, light nights and slow, low sunsets. The difference is smaller than the calendar suggests.
Can I hike at night?
In the light weeks the mountains are as walkable at midnight as at midday, and far quieter — Volandstind is made for it.
Is it warm at night?
Cool and golden — bring a wool layer for the dock. Golden light, warm jacket: a very Lofoten combination.
